Professional Bio
After growing up in rural Georgia and graduating in political science from the University of Georgia, Don graduated with a Doctorate in Law (J.D.) from New York University School of Law where he was a Root-Tilden-Snow Scholar, founder of the Journal of International Law & Politics, a recipient of the Vanderbilt Medal, and editor of the law school newspaper. After practicing law in New York City, he returned to Georgia in 1974 to continue the practice of corporate, securities, tax and international law. For seven years, he also served as an adjunct professor of law at Emory University. Other professional involvements include chairmanship of both the International Law Section and Corporate and Banking Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, chairmanship of two committees of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, and a mentor in the professionalism program of the Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. Through a separate investment and management company, Don conducts investment and merchant banking business and operates several subsidiaries. He has been a frequent author and lecturer on various subjects, and has been active in various charitable endeavors, including efforts on behalf of mentally-retarded adults.
