Professional Bio
Sholpan is a Deputy Regional Director for Columbia University Global Health Research Center of Central Asia which develops and advances evidence-based, sustainable solutions to emerging public health and social issues in the Central Asia region.
Sholpan is co-investigating research studies in Kazakhstan focusing on gender-based violence, linkage to HIV care and treatment for key populations. Sholpan has more than 30 scientific publications (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=primbetova%2C%20sholpan and https://publons.com/researcher/4834058/sholpan-primbetova/).
Sholpan holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University; she also has qualifications and degrees in Pharmacy, Finance, Jurisprudence, and Bioethics.
Sholpan was awarded by the U.S. Department of State scholarship for the International Visitors Leadership Program in 2007, and by the Open Society Institutions for a Master program at Columbia University in 2007; had been classified as one of the most outstanding Kazakhstan alumni who graduated from a university in the US, and received an Honor of Leadership and Excellence from Columbia University School of Social Work in 2017.
Sholpan serves as CELA Kazakhstan Country Director since Dec. 2022.
Sholpan is a Vice President of Kazakhstan Columbia Alumni Association, and an active member of the Alumni Leadership Leagues (which implemented a series of Alumni-initiated social projects funded by the US Embassy in Kazakhstan on disability, equal access, and transparency); a Master of Reiki healing system. Sholpan serves on a Board of Directors for Reiki Home (Reiki Foundation International) since 2018.
Sholpan likes skiing, traveling around the world, exploring new opportunities, and meeting new friends.
